Hello & Greetings To All!

Welcome to Morgantown Arts Academy, where our motto is: "Excellence is Our Aim".

My name is Sonya Anderson Mars and I enthusiastically look forward to working with all parents, students, teachers and stakeholders at Morgantown Arts Academy. I am excited to serve as your school counselor and tickled pink about returning to humble beginnings!

To tell you a little bit about myself, I have been employed with Natchez Adams School District since 2011 and have over eighteen years of experience as a counselor (mental health counselor/therapist, family counselor, geriatric counselor and school counselor). I graduated from Southern University with a B.S. in Mass Communications, an M.Ed. in Counseling from Alcorn State University, an M.S. in Workforce Education Leadership from Alcorn State University/Mississippi State University and an Ed.S. in Counseling from Mississippi College.

I immensely love school counseling and how I am able to bring out the best in most of my students. What I enjoy most about my job, is being able to build relationships with students' families and my awesome community.

The Middle School Years

The Middle School Years have been called one of the highest stress periods in human development.

Middle school students are often described as an emotional roller coaster ride, going from ecstasy to despair in a brief period of time. If your middle school student becomes moody, forgetful, or secretive, do not panic.
That is normal.

Morgantown Arts Academies Guidance Program has been planned and developed to meet the changing needs of students, parents, and staff by using resources in the school, home and community.
